Join the Sackets Harbor American Legion Auxiliary

Rooted in service. Connected by sacrifice.

Sackets Harbor has a proud military history — and the American Legion Auxiliary is proud to carry that spirit forward. We are a community of neighbors, friends, and family members united by our connection to those who have served our nation. Whether your loved one served decades ago or is serving today, there is a place for you in our unit.

Who Can Join

You don't have to have served in the military to be a part of this community. Membership in the American Legion Auxiliary is open to anyone — male or female — who is related to a veteran who served honorably in the U.S. Armed Forces during an eligible period of war or conflict.

You are eligible if you are the:

Spouse, widow or widower, parent, grandparent, great-grandparent, child, grandchild, great-grandchild, sibling, or half-sibling of a veteran who served in the U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, or their predecessors during any of the following periods:

  • World War I (April 6, 1917 – November 11, 1918)

  • World War II (December 7, 1941 – December 31, 1946)

  • Korean War (June 25, 1950 – January 31, 1955)

  • Vietnam War (February 28, 1961 – May 7, 1975)

  • Lebanon / Grenada (August 24, 1982 – July 31, 1984)

  • Panama (December 20, 1989 – January 31, 1990)

  • Gulf War / Operation Desert Shield & Desert Storm (August 2, 1990 – present)

  • Global War on Terrorism / Post-9/11 conflicts (September 11, 2001 – present)

If your family member served honorably during any of these periods — even if they are no longer living — you are likely eligible to join us.

How to Join

We'd love to welcome you. Here's how to get started:

  1. Reach out to us. The easiest first step is simply getting in touch. Stop by a meeting, give us a call, or send us a message using the contact form below. We're happy to answer any questions.

  2. Gather a little information. You'll need basic details about the veteran in your family — their branch of service and when they served. A copy of their DD-214 discharge papers is helpful but not always required.

  3. Complete a membership application. We'll provide you with an application and help guide you through it. It's straightforward, and we're here to help every step of the way.

  4. Pay your annual dues. Annual dues are modest and go directly toward supporting the programs and services our unit provides to veterans, military families, and the Sackets Harbor community.

  5. Show up and get involved. Once your application is approved, you're one of us. Come to meetings, volunteer at events, and become part of something meaningful right here in your own backyard.

Why Join?

The Sackets Harbor American Legion Auxiliary is more than an organization — it's a community. Our members volunteer their time to support veterans at local hospitals, advocate for military families, invest in youth programs, and give back to the village we all call home.

When you join, you honor the service of your family member while making a real difference for veterans and families in the North Country. No military experience required — just a heart for service and a connection to someone who answered the call.
